  • The art of reducing the world into ever-smaller cubes began more than a century ago when the French master Paul Cezanne in his search for the truth in nature formalized everything into spheres, cones and cubes. His radical approach to art and perception kicked the door to the 20th century wide open and it didn’t take Picasso long to apply Cezannes discoveries in multifaceted scenes entirely constructed by cubes. The post-cubist Mondrian did the final push by zooming in on the very fabric of nature – which according to him is made of cubes in black, white, yellow, red and blue.

With Mondrian the boundary between realism and abstract painting dissolved and recently during the last decades painters like Gerhard Richter and Damien Hirst have been experimenting new existential variations where randomly coloured squares and dots form grids on vast canvases.

The series ”COLORFIELD” is Artspoils contribution to a century long journey towards the cube. On each spoiler the colour palette of one of art history’s great artists are captured and reduced to squares, but it’s neither these masters – however good they where – nor the random throw of a dice that will create the final picture this time. It’s you!

It’s time for you to create your own field of colours!
